IMPREX (IMproving PRedictions and management of hydrological EXtremes)
IMPREX will advance the state of the art of operational hydro-meteorological forecasting systems at short to seasonal time scales.
Recent hydrological extreme events demonstrate the vulnerability of European society to water-related natural hazards, and there is strong evidence that climate change will worsen these events in the coming years.
Improving forecasting and prediction of drivers is urgently needed to appropriately inform science-based risk management strategies and adaptation options. This enhancement in the capability of forecasting will increase the resilience of the European society as a whole, while reducing costs for strategic sectors and regions.
The project consortium of 23 partners brings together expertise from both the public and private sector and is well positioned to bridge the gap that often exists between users and providers of hydro-climatic information.
A key outreach product will be produced: a periodic hydrological risk outlook for Europe. The direct involvement of a broad range of stakeholders that routinely develop risk management strategies in key economic sectors will ensure the relevance and uptake of the project outputs.
The project is funded under the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme and runs from 1 October 2015 to 1 October 2019. As a work package leader, Arctik provides specialist communication expertise in the context of the recent “Water cycle under a future climate”.
The planned activities include: developing communication, dissemination and exploitation plans, establishing a visual identity for IMPREX through creation of project logo and website, direct outreach activities, as well as press release and producing information materials for the general public.
