Arctik is proud to have contributed to the relaunch of the \u00ab\u00a0Take a Green Step\u00a0\u00bb website<\/a><\/strong>, an initiative of the European Commission\u2019s Directorate General for the Environment under the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS). The platform has been updated to offer new support to the tourism sector, guiding businesses such as hotels and restaurants towards more environmentally friendly practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a leading global tourist destination<\/a>, Europe must address the environmental impacts of tourism. The \u00ab\u00a0Take a Green Step\u00a0\u00bb initiative aligns with Europe’s broader efforts to promote sustainable tourism<\/strong>, contributing to the goals of the European Green Deal<\/a> and the co-implementation of the EU Transition pathway for tourism<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Supporting a culture of sustainability within the tourism sector<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Greening the tourism sector requires the collaboration of all stakeholders<\/strong>, from industry and destinations to national, regional, and local authorities, as well as consumers, the tourists themselves. EMAS plays a central role in engaging a wide range of stakeholders, by supporting businesses in their sustainability efforts and advancing responsible tourism practices that benefit both the environment and local communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the EMAS Helpdesk, our team made it easy for eco-conscious travellers to find EMAS-registered tourism providers by developing an interactive map highlighting sustainable tourism services and accommodations. This user-friendly tool boosts the visibility and credibility of certified organisations as well as strengthens the network of environmentally responsible stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inspiring success stories<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

These narratives highlight sustainability initiatives of various organisations, including La Ballena Alegre<\/a>, a renowned campsite in Sant Pere Pescador, Spain, known for its commitment to sustainability and environmentally friendly practices. The success stories featured on the website offer valuable insights into the practices, challenges, and solutions that have led to meaningful environmental and social impacts. They also are channels through which organisation can learn from one another and exchange experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
