Arctik’s impetus: Taking climate research on the road for improved adaptation

Arctik joined the EU-funded Impetus4Change project to promote science-based urban resilience at landmark European climate adaptation forum.

We recently attended the 7th European Climate Change Adaptation Conference. Held in the vibrant coastal city of Rimini, Italy, ECCA2025 brought together over 645 researchers, innovators, policymakers, and local initiatives driving climate action.

ECCA2025 was an opportune venue to jumpstart a multi-city event series dedicated to making climate data and other information actionable in cities tackling climate extremes. The I4C #MakeItReal Roadshow will run until late 2026.

Find out more about the I4C #MakeItReal Roadshow kick-off  and Arctik’s role in the Impetus4Change project (I4C) project!

Starting on Day 1, Arctik was in Rimini to promote I4C experts’ presentations and exchanges with other Horizon Europe and EU research projects in real-time. A standout moment was a joint session with the ASPECT project (one of I4C’s sister projects), which focused on the role of knowledge brokers — professionals who bridge the gap between scientific research and practical climate solutions.

At ECCA2025, the I4C team officially launched the #MakeItReal Roadshow.  Why ‘Make It Real’? The effects of climate change are not abstract – they are happening now, all around us. Real challenges require evidence-based, data-driven solutions that incorporate near-term climate predictions and other analyses. The Roadshow will run over the remaining duration of the I4C project, showcasing project results and bringing climate information, mapping, and analysis tools directly to the people shaping future-proof cities.

The IMPETUS Pit Stop – an interactive booth – is a key feature of the Roadshow, inviting policymakers, city planners, community organisers, or anyone interested in data-driven climate action at city and regional levels.

In addition to learning more about the project, participants could play an urban climate scenarios serious game with I4C climate scientists or take the official #MakeItReal quiz.

What’s next?

Impetus4Change is one of a host of EU-funded research projects that Arctik is involved in, leading communication, dissemination, and exploitation. I4C brings together climate, urban, and social science experts to improve the quality and accessibility of climate information for cities and regions. This work supports the EU’s goal of a ‘climate prepared and resilient Europe’ by 2030.
